Local-First AI for Luxury Yachts – The Technology Behind Next AI-Integrated System

When most people think of AI assistants, they think of cloud-connected systems — platforms that rely on constant internet access to process data, generate responses and execute commands. The Next AI-Integrated System, developed by AI Technologies in collaboration with Next Yacht Group and YES Group, takes a fundamentally different approach: a fully local, offline-capable Generative AI platform built specifically for the complex technological environment of a luxury yacht.

As Wired explained, the innovation lies precisely in this architectural choice: “We don’t bring intelligence onto the vessel; we give the vessel its own intelligence”. At the core of the system is a fully local Large Language Model (LLM), running entirely on-board hardware, with no dependency on external servers or cloud infrastructure.

The technical challenge was significant. As Il Sole 24 Ore noted, the platform was designed with a “local-first” approach, meaning “data, models and decisions remain on board” — a requirement that demanded careful architectural choices around model size, hardware integration and real-time performance.

The result is a system capable of understanding complex natural language commands, interacting with every on-board device and responding with consistent speed, regardless of connectivity conditions.

The platform integrates with the full on-board ecosystem: engines, electrical systems, environmental sensors, tank levels, climate control, lighting and entertainment. As PowerYacht MAG described, it introduces “a new paradigm: a local digital brain that functions independently and autonomously” — replacing the fragmented, multi-interface approach typical of modern yacht systems with a single, unified intelligent layer.

From a security standpoint, the architecture ensures that all data and conversations remain entirely on-board. 5G/WAN connectivity is optional and limited to remote read-only access, making the system suitable even for owners with the most demanding privacy and security requirements.

This on-premise, local-first design is entirely consistent with AI Technologies’ broader approach to enterprise AI: building solutions that are not only intelligent, but secure, compliant and deeply integrated into the client’s specific domain.

The first release, showcased at FLIBS 2025 on the AB 110, introduced the assistant in text-based chat mode via the My AB and My Maiora apps. The next phase of development — already on the roadmap — includes always-on voice activation with a dedicated wake word and predictive maintenance, further expanding the system’s autonomous capabilities.

This project demonstrates what becomes possible when Generative AI is designed around a specific domain rather than as a generic tool: a solution that is not just technically advanced, but operationally transformative.
